Motorized Screen System by Others" Is Not a Specification

The majority of architects working on projects that include motorized screens still write "motorized screen system by others" in the construction documents — not because they don't care about the specification, but because the resources required to write a defensible one haven't been available.

No manufacturer-provided CSI spec means building it from scratch. Building it from scratch means research hours the project schedule doesn't have. Research hours that don't exist means the specification gets written in the broadest possible language — or doesn't get written at all.

When the specification doesn't name the system, the builder's dealer names it. That's where design intent ends and substitution begins.

NextGenScreens provides CSI 3-part specifications for both OneTrack™ and MaxForce™ in MasterFormat standard — written, verified, and ready for your project manual. The time between decision and specification is measured in minutes, not days.

What Each Section of the Specification Covers

CSI 3-part specifications follow MasterFormat structure. Both the OneTrack™ and MaxForce™ specifications are written to that standard — complete, not abbreviated.

A Specification That Survives the Review Table

A CSI 3-part specification written to MasterFormat standard is not the same as a product data sheet formatted to look like a specification. The difference matters when the general contractor's submittal process begins, when a value-engineering review identifies substitution targets, or when the AHJ requests documentation of the specified system.

A properly formatted CSI specification:

Gives the contractor a clear scope of work with no ambiguity about what is being supplied and installed. Provides the standard of acceptance against which substitution requests are evaluated — and rejected. Documents performance requirements with specific numbers that a substituted product must match or exceed, in writing, before the architect can approve it. Creates the paper trail that protects the professional's design intent from the first submission through final punch list.

Both the OneTrack™ and MaxForce™ CSI specifications are written to hold that line. Not to describe a product in general terms, but to define exactly what the contractor is obligated to install.

The CSI Spec Works Harder With the Rest of the Package

The CSI specification defines what the contractor is obligated to install. The rest of the NextGenScreens specification package documents why that obligation is defensible — and provides everything else the project team needs to execute it.

BIM Objects section — product model matches construction specification with coordination documented before the first RFI, ensuring seamless integration between BIM modeling and project specifications for architects and engineers

BIM Objects

The product in your model matches the product in your spec. Coordination is documented before the first RFI.

PE-Stamped Engineering Data icon featuring a microchip circuit symbol — wind-load calculations and structural data referencing CSI specification performance basis, including 100 MPH wind rating for OneTrack and 185 MPH with plus or minus 200 PSF design pressure for MaxForce

PE-Stamped Engineering Data

Wind-load calculations and structural data that the CSI specification references as the performance basis. 100 MPH for OneTrack. 185 MPH / +/- 200 PSF for MaxForce.

Detail Drawings icon featuring a drafting triangle and ruler — head, sill, and jamb condition drawings showing contractors exactly how to execute the installation required by the CSI specification

Detail Drawings

Head, sill, and jamb conditions that show the contractor exactly how to execute the installation the CSI spec requires.

Certification Documentation (MaxForce)

TAS 201/202/203, ASTM E1886/E1996/E330, and Florida Product Approval FL# 8637R11 — the test reports the CSI spec references by name.
